Sticker price rarely equals what you pay. Two paths bring most students to little or nothing out of pocket:
- WIOA workforce grants. If you're unemployed or underemployed, a WIOA grant administered through your state's workforce development board can cover most or all tuition at an approved school. Free CDL training in Elgin →
- Company-sponsored training. Many carriers pay tuition upfront in exchange for a driving commitment. How company-sponsored training works →
What the price should include
A complete Class A program should cover the ELDT curriculum (theory + behind-the-wheel range and road time) and testing prep. Ask whether the quote includes the DOT physical, drug screen, permit fees, and state skills-test fee — some schools bundle these, some don't.
